Since its grand opening in 2019, Lottoland has been providing South African bettors with a variety of online betting services. Primarily a lotto betting platform, the site has since expanded into the realm of sports betting.

When I was tasked with reviewing Lottoland, I was struck by the simplicity of the site. The navigational qualities were straightforward; the registration process was simple. Moreover, there was a nice variety of betting options. I’ll explain that and more in this Lottoland review.

Pros and Cons

  • Pros
  • Generous welcome offer for sports
  • Standalone app for Android users
  • Cash-out option is available
  • Cons
  • Limited live streaming options

Who Is Lottoland Best Suited For?

Based on my experience, Lottoland is suitable for bettors who like to buy lottery tickets. It is also suitable for those who like to bet on pre-match and in-play sports events, and for bettors who like subscription bet offers.

Despite the positives, Lottoland’s sports betting coverage is limited to a handful of sports, and the number of payment methods it accepts is also limited.

Lottoland SA Lotto

lottoland lotto

Lottoland SA Lotto is a bi-weekly lottery that offers a 1 in 20,358,520 chance of winning the top prize. The objective of this game is to select six numbers from a pool of 52. Prizes are awarded based on the numbers contained within each ticket. There are seven possible winning combinations. The lowest payout is two or more numbers + the bonus number, and the top payout is six out of six.

Lottoland SA Powerball

lottoland powerball

Lottoland SA Powerball is another bi-weekly lottery that offers a 1 in 42,375,200 chance of winning the jackpot. Similar to other lotteries, the objective is to select five numbers from a pool of 50 and a “PowerBall” from a pool of 20. Weekly draws are held on Tuesdays and Fridays at 9 pm South African time. However, the Powerball offers nine possible winning combinations. The lowest is the PowerBall number, and the top payout is five numbers + the PowerBall.

Lottoland Lucky Numbers

lottoland lucky numbers

The Lottoland lucky numbers section provides bettors with the unique opportunity to bet on lotteries in the same way they do sports. Similar to sports betting, bettors can opt to bet on odd/even, bonus ball odd/even, sum of all drawn numbers odd/even, smallest number drawn, and highest number drawn.

In addition, bettors can buy tickets to their favourite lotteries, view a list of current matches, upcoming matches, now and next, and competitions. Likewise, bettors can navigate to a results page and, if preferred, use a quick pick feature.

Other Supported Lotteries

lottoland other lotteries

In addition to the SA Lotto and SA Powerball draws, Lottoland provides the opportunity to buy tickets to a variety of other lotteries from Europe, Ireland, the United Kingdom, Mexico, Poland, France, Spain, Germany, and Austria. A sample of those includes:

  • Christmas Lottery
  • EuroMillions GO!
  • EuroJackpot GO!
  • EuroJackpot
  • Austrian Lotto
  • MegaMillions
  • Irish Lotto (Plus & Main)
  • German Lotto
  • Mini Lotto
  • UK Lotto Plus

Lottoland Sports Betting Coverage

lottoland sports betting coverage

Looking at Lottoland’s sports betting coverage, I was surprised to see it only provides the opportunity to bet on 13 disciplines. At the moment, this includes popular sports like football, rugby, tennis, and the following:

  • Basketball
  • Boxing
  • Cricket
  • Cycling
  • eSports
  • Football
  • Golf
  • Lacrosse
  • MMA
  • Motor Sports
  • Rugby
  • Tennis
  • Virtual Sports

Whilst the availability of disciplines is less than I expected, coverage includes a variety of South African leagues, such as the Premiership and National Women’s League. Moreover, bettors can bet on international leagues, such as the Premier League, FA Cup, and Rugby Super League.

Football

With football being a go-to for most South African bettors, Lottoland has outdone itself in terms of its football coverage. As I indicated above, this coverage includes popular leagues like the Premiership, FA Cup, and UEFA.

In addition, there are over 950 football matches you can bet on every day. The majority of these included competitive odds for a large number of betting markets such as Which team to Score, Total Corners, Over/Under, 1×2, and Both Teams to Score.

Rugby

With an average of 70+ rugby events to bet on daily, bettors will not be disappointed by the options they can avail. Besides traditional pre-match and in-play betting opportunities, the bookie’s odds are competitive, and its market representation is excellent.

As you would expect, this includes popular options like Winner, Odd/Even, Handicap, Halftime/fulltime, Double Chance, and Draw no Bet. Moreover, the bookie’s coverage includes competitions like the Queensland Premier Rugby League, National Rugby League, Six Nations, and Top 14.

Cricket

Given cricket’s popularity in South Africa, Lottoland’s coverage is as good as you will find with other SA bookies. That coverage includes cricket events from South Africa, England, Australia, India, Pakistan, Malta, and Kuwait.

Expectantly, the odds are competitive, and its range of markets is similar to other sports. They include Winner, Top Batsman, Top Bowler, First Innings Overs, Which Team wins the Coin Toss, and Highest Opening Partnership.

Betting Markets, Odds, and Margins

A glance at the sports betting markets, odds, and margins will give you a good idea of what to expect from Lottoland. Regardless of the sport you are betting on, you can expect to find multiple betting markets. This includes standard options like Winner, 1×2, Over/Under, and Odd/Even.

Besides providing competitive odds, Lottoland’s margins are quite respectable. Naturally, the percentage margin varies, but overall, they are favourable. The odds can be viewed in American, Decimal, and Fractional formats. Typically, they range from 1.20 to 36.00, but at times, they can be more or less depending on the market and game in question.

Lottoland Live Betting

lottoland live betting

Like most bookies, Lottoland provides the opportunity to bet on live sports events. Navigating to the “Live” section, you will find a horizontal navigational menu and a listing of live in-play sports betting opportunities like football and cricket.

However, unlike pre-match betting, the number of live betting opportunities tends to be less due to the limited number of sports covered. That said, most in-play events offer 20+ markets, but the odds are similar to pre-match betting. I found placing a live bet easy.

Although this was my experience across the board at Lottoland when placing a bet. The theme and simplicity were the same, and the system’s responsiveness was critical in my bets being recorded in a timely fashion.

Top Betting Features

While Lottoland doesn’t offer as many betting features as some bookies, those it does offer are widely considered must-haves for most bettors.

  • Bet Builder – Lottoland’s bet builder feature will allow bettors to select multiple selections from the same sports event into one bet. The odds, bet amount, and payouts are combined into one bet slip.
  • Cash Out – The cash out feature via Lottoland’s Sportland allows bettors to cash out their single or multi bets early. However, this feature is only available for certain markets and bets, and the settlement amount is based on current game conditions.
  • Live Streaming – Although Lottoland does offer some live streaming services, they are only available for select sports. On the plus side, the streaming quality is on par with other South African accessible streaming services.

How to Place a Bet at Lottoland – Step-by-Step Instructions

lottoland place a bet

Placing a bet at Lottoland is a straightforward process. The first step is to log into your Lottoland account, and the remaining steps require you to:

  1. Select a sport category.
  2. Choose a game from the list of available options.
  3. Review the odds and market selections.
  4. Enter the amount you want to stake.
  5. Submit your bet.

I commend Lottoland for keeping the betting process simple. The entire process, from start to finish, minus the time it took me to make my selections, took less than a minute.

Lottoland Compared to Other Bookmakers

Comparing Lottoland to other bookmakers in South Africa, like Supabets and Hollywoodbets, was a fairly simple process. While I acknowledge that Supabets and Hollywoodbets are established bookmakers, they primarily focus on sports betting.

Lottoland offers similar services to ensures punters have a competitive betting platform. However, increasing the number of sports covered and the number of betting features they offer will help Lottoland compete with the big boys.

Mobile Gambling Options – Is There a Lottoland App?

lottoland mobile

Yes, there is a Lottoland app for Android users. The minimum system requirements for the app are fairly standard, as are the space requirements.

iOS users, on the other hand, can use an iOS-optimized mobile version. The mobile site is a clone of the main site, meaning it performs flawlessly. It offers a similar design and layout, and functionally, there are no browser restrictions.

Overall, I was pleased with the app’s functionality and ease of use. It was easy to download, and the installation process was familiar. I also tested the mobile site and found it the more convenient of the two options.

Registration Process and Account Verification

lottoland registration

The Lottoland register process is the first step bettors will have to take before they can place real money bets. To open an account, you have to:

  1. Click “Register” beside the Lottoland login button.
  2. Then, enter your email address and create a password for your account.
  3. Next, enter your SA National ID number.
  4. After that, enter your name, phone number, and address details.
  5. Select your province and source of funds.
  6. Confirm you’re 18 or older and have read the T&CS.
  7. Click the “Create a new account” button.

After registering an account, all users need to be FICA verified. This is a standardized process that requires users to upload the following:

  • A legible copy of their National ID, Passport, or Driver’s license.
  • A copy of a recently issued utility bill or bank statement.

Based on my experience, registering an account at Lottoland was easy. The same is true about the FICA verification process. Both were simple, straightforward, and easy to follow.

Lottoland Welcome Bonus and Promotions

lottoland welcome bonus sport

Lottoland is offering its newest customers money back as a cash welcome offer. To qualify for the Lottoland welcome bonus offer, players must opt in via the welcome bonus landing page. If their bet doesn’t win, Lottoland will credit their account with up to R50 as a risk-free bet.

The terms of this offer stipulate that free bets must be claimed within 7 days of registration. Likewise, they state:

  • This offer is only valid for single and acca bets.
  • The minimum bet requirement for this offer is R50.
  • Money-back free bets will be credited within 72 hours of bet settlement.
  • Unused money back free bets expire after seven days.

I can confirm the legitimacy of this offer. I qualified for my free bet and was impressed with the efficiency of the entire process. Better yet, there are no wagering requirements attached to this offer.

Payment Options – Deposits and Withdrawals

As you might expect, bettors can use various payment methods to make deposits and withdrawals. At the moment, this includes credit cards, vouchers, EFT, and mobile payment options.

The minimum deposit limits for each method vary, and, as confirmed by a customer support agent, there are no maximum withdrawal limits. All deposit transactions are processed in real time, whereas withdrawal processing times average 1 to 2 days.

I opted to upload funds to my Lottoland account several times, and each time, my transaction was approved in seconds. The best payment method for me was 1Voucher, but Capitec Pay was a close second.

How Helpful is Lottoland SA Customer Support?

Overall, Lottoland’s support was helpful and assisted me in a timely manner. If you need some help, you can contact Lottoland via one of the following channels:

Unfortunately, the operator does not provide assistance via social media. Additionally, live chat is only available Monday through Friday from 01.00 AM to 12.00 AM SAST and on weekends from 01.00 AM to 09.00 AM and 10.30 AM to 06.30 PM SAST.

Security and Licensing

Lottoland is a legitimate business licensed by the Western Cape Gambling Board (License # 10185705). As a result, Lottoland is legally permitted to offer the real money betting services described in this review.

In addition, the operator’s license with the Western Cape Gambling Board requires it to ensure all betting services are safe and secure. Subsequently, the site employs SSL encryption software to protect data transmission. Likewise, it follows standard HTTPS protocols and employs various measures such as fraud protection and mandatory age verification.

Lottoland Responsible Gambling Features

As a licensed betting site, Lottoland believes its number one responsibility is to ensure its customers gamble responsibly. As such, the company provides the following safer betting tools:

  • Deposit Limit
  • Reality Check
  • Self-Assesment Test

In addition to the above betting tools, bettors can access a safer betting self-assessment test. This is in addition to links and resources provided by the South African Responsible Gambling Foundation.

User Experience and Feedback

After thoroughly reviewing Lottoland, I was curious to see what others thought of the brand. While I did not come across that many reviews, Lottoland is loved by some and disliked by others.

I noticed several players commenting that the site is first-class. Another spoke highly about the account verification and withdrawal process. Moreover, quite a few players commended the site’s support team.

However, I also came across some negative comments. There were complaints about the betting process, deposits, withdrawals, and account verification. On the plus side, Lottoland responded accordingly in an effort to resolve the matter.

History and Background of Lottoland

Owned and operated by Lottoland South Africa (Pty), Lottoland debuted in South Africa in 2019 and operates as a fixed odds lotto betting platform. With a motto to make dreams come true, the company offers more lotteries than its competitors, and lotteries with the biggest payouts.

As a result of its popularity, the evolution of Lottoland as a betting site saw it add sports betting to the mix. Since then, it has focused on delivering a positive impact to its customers via fast payouts and world-class betting services.

Final Verdict and Rating – Why You Should Bet at Lottoland

Lottoland is undoubtedly one of the best lotto sites in South Africa. I love the lottery options, markets, odds, and betting features they offer, and their sports betting coverage, albeit small, was a nice add-on.

Subsequently, I gave Lottoland a 4.3/5 rating. This was partly due to the variety of bonus opportunities they offer and the dedicated support centre. For me, that is a compelling reason to play at Lottoland.
