The final games of World Cup Group B take place on Tuesday night. One of those games is neighbours Wales and England going head-to-head, with one of the pair heading home.
Wales form guideIt would take an incredible scenario for Wales to now qualify for the last 16 of the competition after a 2-0 defeat against Iran last time out. They would have to win this game and hope the other result goes their way, and even then, it would take a turnaround in goal difference to see the Dragons make it to the knockout stages.
Even in a tournament of surprises, Wales’ recent form suggests that Robert Page’s team are unlikely to win this game, as the Dragons go into this game on the back of four defeats in their last five matches.
England form guideThe Three Lions' 0-0 draw against the USA kept them in control of the group, even if their performance was considered underwhelming by most observers. Gareth Southgate’s team don’t need to win to qualify or even win the group.
A draw could be enough to see England win the group if Iran and the USA draw in the other game. However, if this game ends in a draw and Iran beats the USA, then Iran will win the group.
The USA would need a goal difference swing of four to top the group or finish above England.
Latest team newsWales are without Wayne Hennessey after the goalkeeper’s late dismissal against Iran. Danny Ward will deputise for the Palace star. The fit-again Joe Allen could return in the centre of midfield, while Daniel James and Brendan Johnson will hope to start the game.
England should have a fully-fit squad for this clash. Their main selection dilemmas involve Kyle Walker maybe returning in place of Kieran Trippier, while Phil Foden is also in contention for a start after just one substitute appearance so far in the tournament.
What am I backing?England has won the previous six games against the Dragons, conceding just once, and I am backing the Three Lions to record a seventh straight victory against the neighbours.
