The Major League Soccer season is in full swing now as we continue to march through the month of May. While leagues across Europe may be starting to wind down, things are only just picking up across North America as teams up and down the MLS strive to make an impact. Today, we’ll be taking a look at the upcoming clash between Toronto FC and New York City FC.
Toronto Form GuideToronto were officially the worst team in the MLS last season with just 22 points from 34 games, featuring just four victories in that time. When you consider what they’ve been able to accomplish across the last decade as a whole, you really do have to wonder what went wrong. In addition, it’s hard not to be curious about what the next few months will look like for them.
Toronto didn’t mess around last weekend when they played host to Dallas. After a slow first half from both teams, they were able to reach that next gear in style as they scored three in the second half to walk away with a 3-1 win and a spot in the top three in the East.
New York Form GuideAfter years of trying, New York City finally climbed to the top of the mountain back in 2021 and won the MLS Cup. In the present day, though, they seem to have taken their foot off the gas ever so slightly. At this point, their aim is to get back to a point of prominence at the elite level - but we still believe it’s going to take a bit of time for them to get there, especially with their current squad.
For whatever reason, New York just didn’t look themselves in their home clash with Colorado last weekend. They weren’t clinical in front of goal, they were shaky at the back, and they were just beaten by the better team on the day as they slumped to a 2-0 defeat.
Match PredictionThese sides have both gotten off to a decent enough start this season, and we don’t expect to see them put it all on the line in a game like this. It’s going to be cautious and trepidatious from beginning to end and in terms of an official prediction, we’re going to shoot for a draw.
