On Wednesday afternoon, Spain will kick off their World Cup as they face Costa Rica in Group E of the World Cup.
Spain form guideLa Roja qualified for World Cup 2022 by winning Group B ahead of Sweden by winning six of their eight games in qualifying, having also drawn one and lost of their matches. Luis Enrique’s team kept clean sheets in their final four qualifiers, which helped La Roja secure their place in Qatar 2022.
Spain’s recent international form has been good, as La Roja have won four of their last five matches. They have also suffered just one defeat in their previous 11 outings. Enrique’s team has been relatively strong in defence, keeping three clean sheets in their last five games.
Costa Rica form guideLuis Suarez’s team qualified for the World Cup by first finishing fourth place in CONCACAF qualifying before beating New Zealand 1-0 in an inter-continental play-off.
Costa Rica will be participating in their sixth World Cup in 2022. It will also be Costa Rica’s third straight World Cup. They enjoyed their best-ever World Cup in 2014 in Brazil. However, they failed to get out of their group in 2018 when they were unable to win any of their games.
Costa Rica heads into the World Cup in good form, as they are unbeaten in five international matches, having recorded four wins and a draw. A big factor in their recent good results has been some excellent attacking displays, as they have scored at least two goals in four of their previous five outings.
What am I backing?Spain will expect to open their campaign with a victory, despite Costa Rica’s recent good form, I am backing La Roja to record a win.
