UEFA Euro 2024 will take place next summer and the road to qualifying for that tournament continues this week with the latest international break. As clubs across the continent hit the pause button on their domestic leagues, plenty of countries will be hoping to edge closer to the finals. Today, we’ll be taking a look at what should be a fun encounter between Spain and Scotland.
Spain Form GuideRegardless of what their situation may be at any given moment, Spain should always be seen as a nation that is well and truly in the fight. They had their big run between 2008 and 2012 but now, they’ve got a brand new golden generation coming through. At this stage, it’s just a case of figuring out how they can maximise that, and whether or not they’ve got what it takes to win another major trophy.
Following on from a dominant 3-0 win over Norway, the Spanish fell to a surprising and disappointing 2-0 loss courtesy of Scotland. After that they beat Italy and Croaita to win the Nations League, before rattling off dominant wins over Georgia and Cyprus by a combined score of 13-1.
Scotland Form GuideScotland enjoyed their cameo at the last European Championships so much that they’re ready to try and do it all over again. They’ve certainly got a great deal of raw talent and they have a spirit within their squad that we haven’t seen from them in years. Now, it’s a case of whether or not they can keep up their consistency in the face of adversity, which has often held them back in the past.
They may have lost to England in a fascinating friendly last month but prior to that, the Scots were on fire. They managed to put together five straight qualifying wins over Cyprus (x2), Spain, Norway and Georgia to set themselves up nicely for qualification.
Match PredictionOne thing that wouldn’t at all surprise us here would be goals. Spain want to make a statement following their loss in the reverse fixture, whereas the Scots won’t feel like they’ve got a whole lot to lose at this stage. In our book, the most likely outcome is going to be over 2.5 goals scored.
