The Ligue 1 campaign is back underway following their winter break as every single club in the top flight attempts to get 2024 off to a great start. There’s still a whole lot to play for at both ends of the table and given what we know about this division, we should expect the unexpected. Today, we’ll be taking a look at what should be a fun clash between Brest and Montpellier.
Brest Form GuideStade Brestois 29 were not a million miles away from slipping into the relegation picture last season, and that’s worth remembering when you take a look at just how well they’ve looked thus far. Sure, there’s a bigger argument to be had about the state of the top flight as a whole, but Brest are looking like the kind of team who could really cause some problems between now and May.
Aside from a 1-1 draw with Strasbourg, Brest have been picture perfect since the start of December. They’ve been able to pick up five wins in their last six, beating the following teams: Clermont, Metz, Nantes, Lorient and Angers in the Coupe de France.
Montpellier Form GuideMontpellier have done some memorable things over the course of the last decade or so, establishing themselves as one of the most unpredictable clubs to watch in France. In equal measure, though, they’re coming off the back of a campaign that they’d rather forget - and we’re putting that very lightly. They need to mix things up if they want to climb back into European contention.
After a draw with Clermont and a defeat to Monaco, Montpellier continued to stumble in a 0-0 draw with Lens. They rebounded with a narrow win over Metz before a 1-1 draw at home to Marseille and a nice 2-1 win over Amiens in the Coupe de France.
Match PredictionWe think Montpellier have a lot they can bring to the table when they’re playing at their best, but they just don’t seem to be clicking across the pitch right now. As such, we can’t picture a world in which they get something here, which is why we’re predicting a Brest win.
