We’re back with the final international break of 2023 as we continue down the road to UEFA Euro 2024. It’s safe to say that things are really starting to heat up in pretty much every group as nations qualify and make their push to reach the playoffs. Today, we’ll be taking a look at what should be an intriguing battle between Liechtenstein and Luxembourg.
Liechtenstein Form GuideRight now, Liechtenstein are ranked 200th in the FIFA rankings, with just eight other nations on the planet being below them. If that didn’t make it obvious enough, this is a country that isn’t expected to do a whole lot on the international stage. They may get a slightly more positive result from time to time, but in the long run, they exist merely as warm bodies.
Liechtenstein, for their troubles, can be pretty happy with the performance they put in against Portugal last night as they only lost 2-0 to the 2016 European champions.
Luxembourg Form GuideLuxembourg is known as the nation with the most qualifying campaigns for the World Cup and Euros without ever actually reaching the final tournament. While many expect that trend to continue, there certainly seems to be a self belief in this particular squad that could do wonders for them. They’re looking stronger than they ever have, and you never know how far they could take it.
If you had any doubts about Luxembourg’s status as a team that could genuinely qualify for the Euros, perhaps their dominant 4-1 win over Bosnia yesterday will give you a different perspective.
Match PredictionWe do think Liechtenstein will fancy themselves in the sense that they probably won’t get blown out of the water, but when push comes to shove, they just aren’t up to scratch over the course of 90 minutes. For that reason, we’re going to go ahead and predict a Luxembourg win.
