We’re into the final furlong now as we approach the last few games of the Ligue 1 season. French football has really come into its own since last August with a campaign full of exciting twists and turns at both ends of the table. Now, it’s all a case of seeing who can hold their nerve. Today, we’ll be taking a look at what should be an interesting clash between Lorient and Toulouse.
Lorient Form GuideLorient looked far more composed last season than they did the year prior when they found themselves edging towards the relegation zone. Alas, this time around, they’re right back where they don’t want to be - and they’re showing no signs of vaulting themselves out of trouble. It’s still pretty tight with a handful of games to go, but things are definitely looking precarious.
Across their last six games, Lorient have picked up a point in a draw with Monaco, and that’s been their only positive result. They’ve also lost five games in that space of time courtesy of Lyon, Brest, Montpellier, Nice and, most recently, PSG.
Toulouse Form GuideToulouse finished last season with a pretty below-par spot in the Ligue 1 table but alongside that, they were also able to capture the Coupe de France trophy in convincing fashion. That means they have European football to focus on from this month onwards but for the time being, they’ll want to build up some sustainability and credibility in French football’s top tier.
Since suffering defeats to Le Havre and Lyon, Toulouse have looked pretty solid. They secured a win over Clermont, drew 0-0 with Strasbourg, defeated Rennes 2-1 on the road, and were held to a 2-2 draw by Marseille in a real thriller.
Match PredictionLorient need to scratch and claw like their life depends on it because, well, it does. They need to pick up results and fast but unfortunately, they just aren’t showing the kind of drive or heart necessary to make that push. In our view, the likeliest outcome here is a Toulouse win.
