We’re entering the final stages of the Ligue 1 season as teams up and down French football’s top flight attempt to finish the campaign off strong. It’s been a rollercoaster ride up to this point and over the course of the next few weeks, we expect to see more of the same across the nation. Today, we’ll be taking a look at the upcoming encounter between Reims and Montpellier.
Reims Form GuideFollowing on from a top six finish a few years back, Reims have spent a lot of time lingering around mid-table. They have the ability to spring an upset from time to time but there’s still a lot of work that needs doing to the overall structure of the squad, although it must be said that Will Still has been able to have a really strong impact within the club and he deserves praise for his efforts.
Outside of a 2-1 win over Metz, Reims have struggled to get things going in recent weeks. They did pick up a point in draws with PSG, Lyon and Nice, but alongside that, they’ve also suffered setbacks in the form of defeats to Lille and Strasbourg.
Montpellier Form GuideMontpellier have done some memorable things over the course of the last decade or so, establishing themselves as one of the most unpredictable clubs to watch in France. In equal measure, though, they’re coming off the back of a campaign that they’d rather forget - and we’re putting that very lightly. They need to mix things up if they want to climb back into European contention.
After a 2-1 win over Nice, Montpellier were hit with a humbling 6-2 defeat courtesy of PSG. They proceeded to pick up nice wins over Le Havre and Lorient, and then on the road against Clermont, they fought to an admirable 1-1 draw.
Match PredictionBoth of these sides have quality in their ranks and they like to be pretty direct, especially in the final third. In this clash, however, we feel as if it’ll be a bit more technical, which probably isn’t what neutrals want to hear. In our view, the most likely outcome in this one is a Reims win.
