On Tuesday night, Rayo Vallecano and Valencia go head-to-head at Vallecas in a midtable La Liga encounter.
Rayo Vallecano form guideThe home team is in 11th place in the Spanish top-flight table after collecting 20 points from their opening 17 games of the campaign. They are currently seven points above the relegation zone and ten points adrift of the European spots.
A 1-0 defeat at Osasuna last time out in La Liga means that Rayo is now winless in seven league matches. The game was also another relatively low-scoring affair for the club from the capital, as three of their previous four league games have produced under 2.5 goals.
Rayo have been the kings of the home draw of late, as five of their last six league matches at Vallecas have ended in draws. They have also lost just once in their previous seven league games on home soil.
Valencia form guideLike their hosts, Los Che haven’t been in the best of form of late in the Spanish top-flight, as they head into this clash on the back of a five-game winless run in La Liga. A 1-1 home draw with reigning champions Barcelona last time out was at least a respectable result.
The game against the Catalan giants was another low-scoring encounter for the visitors in the Spanish top flight, as three of their last four outings have produced under 2.5 goals.
Valencia really hasn’t travelled well of late, as Ruben Baraja’s team is winless in eight away games in the Liga, having suffered three straight away defeats in La Liga at Real Madrid, Girona and Getafe.
The fact that they conceded at least two goals in three of their previous four games has significantly contributed to their poor away form.
What am I backing? There is very little between these two teams in the standings, just goal difference, in fact. I can see this being a fairly even and low-scoring game, which is why I am backing under 2.5 goals scored.
