Sevilla are once again embroiled in the fight for survival in La Liga. The Andalusians will look to boost their survival hopes this weekend as they welcome midtable Osasuna to the Sanchez Pizjuan on Sunday evening.
Struggling for resultsSevilla is currently in 17th place in the Spanish top-flight table, just a point above the relegation zone. Quique Sanchez Flores’ team exited the Copa del Rey in midweek, going down to a 1-0 defeat at Atletico Madrid.
The result just adds to a catalogue of poor recent results, as the home team goes into this encounter on the back of four consecutive defeats in the Spanish top-flight.
Conceding too many goals has been their primary issue of late, as they have conceded at least two goals in their last three Liga games.
Even playing at the Sanchez Pizjuan has not helped Sevilla pick up results, as they are winless on home soil in La Liga in seven matches, having suffered three straight home defeats.
Osasuna in the limbo of midtableThe team from Pamplona are right in the middle of La Liga’s standings, as they are ten points adrift of the European spots while also being ten points clear of the relegation zone.
A recent promising run of three wins in their last four games in La Liga has raised hopes that Arrasate’s team could still mount a charge for the European spots.
If they are to mount an unlikely top-six charge, then Osasuna’s away form will have to improve as they head into this game on the back of a five-game winless run on their travels, including four defeats.
Poor defensive displays have been the main reason for their recent woeful away form in La Liga, as they have conceded at least two goals in all four of those recent away defeats.
What am I backing?I wouldn’t be confident backing either of these teams for a victory. However, both have been involved in high-scoring games, and I believe this game will follow that pattern. The bet I am backing is over 2.5 goals scored.
