UEFA Euro 2024 will take place next summer and the road to qualifying for that tournament continues this week with the latest international break. As clubs across the continent hit the pause button on their domestic leagues, plenty of countries will be hoping to edge closer to the finals. Today, we’ll be taking a look at what should be a fun encounter between Ireland and Greece.
Ireland Form GuideIreland is a proud nation across all sporting fronts and that much is obvious. They have been to the top of the mountain in so many different practices but within the realm of football, it still seems as if there’s work to be done. They need to restore that national pride within the squad itself and from there, trust in bright youngsters that are actually willing to give their heart and soul to the badge.
Following defeats to France and Greece, Ireland got a much-needed win against Gibraltar to edge back on track. Unfortunately, they lost to France again and then the Netherlands to leave themselves in a really tricky spot in qualifying.
Greece Form GuideEveryone remembers Greece for their famous triumph back at Euro 2004 and now, 20 years later, they seem ready and prepared to try and make another run to the big time. We don’t mean actually winning it, of course, because that would be an even bigger miracle than it was two decades ago, but qualifying is going to be a big target given that they haven’t managed it in their last two attempts.
After beating Gibraltar and Ireland, the Greeks fell short to the superior France and Netherlands in back-to-back qualifiers. They did, however, batter Gibraltar 5-0 last month to give themselves a chance as the race to reach Germany continues.
Match PredictionIt just feels like the Irish’s confidence has gone in more ways than one and now that they’ve automatically qualified for Euro 2028, you have to wonder if one eye is already on the World Cup in 2026. Either way, our prediction for this one is going to be a Greece win.
