On Friday afternoon, Ghana and Uruguay face off in a vital final game in Group H of the World Cup.
Ghana form guideThe Black Stars put themselves right back into contention for a place in the knockout stages by beating South Korea 3-2 last time out. They had lost their opening match 3-2 against group leaders Portugal.
The results mean that if Ghana wins this clash, they will qualify for the last 16 of the competition. Even a draw will likely be enough if Japan fails to beat Portugal by two goals.
Ghana’s recent results have been decent, as they have won three of their last four international matches.
However, Ghana’s recent record at the World Cup is a poor one, as the victory over South Korea ended a five-game winless run in the competition.
Uruguay form guideDiego Alonso’s team have been disappointing so far in Qatar, drawing 0-0 with South Korea in their opening match before a 2-0 defeat against Portugal in gameweek two. However, Uruguay can still make the knockout stages if they win this clash, as long as Japan doesn’t beat Portugal in the other game in the group.
A victory for the Celeste seems unlikely, though, as Uruguay has won just one of their last four international matches while failing to score in three of the games.
Their recent record at the World Cup isn’t great either, as they have now failed to win in their previous three games in the competition, having failed to score in all the winless matches.
Latest team newsGhana has a fully fit squad and could name an unchanged starting line-up from last time out. Uruguay continues to be without Barcelona centre-back Ronald Araujo through injury.
What am I backing?Ghana looked vibrant and exciting in attack at times against South Korea, and I am backing the Black Stars to record another win here to book their place in the last 16 of the competition.
