The Turkish Super Lig returns once again this weekend as we continue to march through the winter months. There’s a clear picture beginning to form at both ends of the table as all 20 clubs attempt to build some momentum before we enter the final third of the season. Today, we’ll be taking a look at what should be a fun clash between Galatasaray and Istanbulspor.
Galatasaray Form GuideGalatasaray are the real juggernauts of Turkish football and just about everyone would agree with that. They are the reigning kings of the castle and when you take a look at their squad, it isn’t hard to see why. This is a well-run organisation and while rivals Fenerbahce will push them all the way, you’d have to put them down as the favourites to get the job done once again.
Galatasaray, every now and then, will showcase the kind of ruthless aggression that reminds everyone why they’re such a feared force in their homeland. The game against Trabzonspor was one of those instances as they dominated the hosts 5-1.
Istanbulspor Form Guide Istanbulspor, one of the smaller clubs to stem from the city (despite their 1932 title win), did well to finish in 12th place last season. They’re historically known as a popular club in Istanbul behind the likes of Besiktas, Galatasaray and Fenerbahce, but based on the evidence we’ve seen this season, they’re in real trouble, and the threat of relegation looms large.Despite only having 34% possession throughout the course of their clash with Kayserispor, Istanbulspor were the ones who had the most shots with 17 to their name. It seemed as if they’d be left feeling frustrated, but instead, Ali Yasar bagged a stunning 95th minute winner to earn them a 1-0 win.
Match PredictionIt’s not impossible to think Istanbulspor could spring an upset in this one, but we firmly believe it will take a masterclass of a performance - alongside Gala being really off their game. This, in our view, isn’t going to be particularly close, which is why we’re predicting a Galatasaray win.
