It’s a new year and in English football, that means one thing: it’s time for the third round of the FA Cup to get underway. The oldest club competition in the world is ready to welcome the big boys as we continue on the long road to Wembley. Today, we’ll be taking a look at what should be an exciting clash between Tottenham Hotspur and Burnley.
Tottenham Form GuideFollowing on from their best ever start to a Premier League season, Tottenham Hotspur have come crashing back down to earth - and Big Ange is having to endure the cold reality of English football. Spurs still have the quality necessary to cause just about anyone problems but between injuries and an eccentric style of play, their big issue will always be consistency.
Following a 2-1 loss to West Ham, Spurs rattled off three big wins over Newcastle, Nottingham Forest and Everton. Their chaotic campaign continued as they fell to a 4-2 loss against Brighton, before bouncing back with a nice 3-1 win at home to Bournemouth.
Burnley Form GuideFor the longest time now, it’s felt as if Burnley were just waiting to kick into a higher gear - but for whatever reason, Vincent Kompany’s boys have failed to live up to the hype. They’re playing good football and can tough it out against pretty much anyone but when it comes to actually getting positive results, they’ve left their fans feeling pretty worried as we begin the new year.
Burnley’s loss to Wolves was followed by an important 1-1 draw on the road against Brighton. They went on to lose to Everton before beating Fulham, but their joy was short-lived as they were beaten by Liverpool and Aston Villa in the lead-up to the new year.
Match PredictionBurnley need to hope that Spurs put out a weakened side because outside of that, we’re not so sure how they’re going to get the job done here. Anything is possible, as we know in this wonderful game, but we just can’t see it - which is why we’re backing a Tottenham win.
