On Thursday night, Nordic duo Denmark and Finland go head-to-head in Group H of Euro 2024 qualifying.
Denmark form guideKasper Hjulmand’s team has been on a poor recent run of form of late, as they have won just one of their last five international outings while suffering three defeats in that poor recent run of results. The Scandinavians faced France twice and Croatia in that run, so the poor results are more understandable.
Denmark has an excellent recent record in qualifying for the European Championships, as they are unbeaten in nine qualifiers, having won four of their last six games in qualifying.
The home team also have a strong recent home record in qualifying for the European Championships. They are unbeaten in seven home qualifiers, having recorded three straight home wins in qualifying.
Finland form guideThe visitors have struggled to make their mark in the international game. However, they made history at Euro 2020, as it was the first time they had ever qualified for an international tournament.
After beating Thursday night’s opponents 1-0 in difficult circumstances following the collapse of Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen, the visitors suffered back-to-back defeats to Russia and Belgium to exit the competition at the group stage.
Despite qualifying for the last European Championships, they also have a recent mixed record in qualifying, having won three and lost two of their last five qualifiers.
Their form in qualifying maybe been inconsistent, but something that was not inconsistent was the number of goals scored in their most recent qualifiers, with over 2.5 goals scored in their last five qualifiers.
Finland has also lost three of their last five away games in European Championship qualifying.
What am I backing?Although the recent record between these two teams is relatively even, with both teams winning twice and two games ending in draws in their last six meetings, I am backing Denmark to come out on top in this clash.
