The Major League Soccer season is in full swing now as we continue to march through the month of May. While leagues across Europe may be starting to wind down, things are only just picking up across North America as teams up and down the MLS strive to make an impact. Today, we’ll be taking a look at the upcoming clash between Columbus Crew and FC Cincinnati.
Columbus Form GuideLast season, Columbus Crew once again proved why they’re one of the most revered franchises in all of Major League Soccer. Following a late run that saw them finish third in the Eastern Conference, the Crew managed to go deep into the playoffs, finishing off their run with an unforgettable and thrilling triumph over Los Angeles FC in the MLS Cup final.
Columbus were busy last weekend taking on Monterrey in the second leg of their Champions League semi-final. They kept their composure, they looked great on and off the ball, and they won 3-1 to ensure they booked their place in the final.
Cincinnati Form GuideCincinnati made quite the splash last season as they won the Supporters’ Shield, which is handed out to the club with the best regular season record. They did so by accumulating 69 points but in the playoffs, they couldn’t make it all the way. They did get through NY Red Bulls and Philadelphia, only to fall short to Columbus in the conference finals.
Cincinnati and Orlando played out a really confusing game last weekend. Cincy went ahead in the first minute but over the course of the next 89 minutes, both teams picked up a red card, with Cincinnati eventually being forced to cling on for a 1-0 win.
Match PredictionColumbus and Cincinnati are both exceptionally talented teams and in the East, they’re bound to be right up there by the time we reach the end of the season. We expect a really technical, fun affair, and in terms of an official prediction, we’re going to shoot for a draw.
