On Wednesday night, two of European football’s biggest teams go head-to-head at the Nou Camp as Barcelona host Bayern Munich in Group C of the Champions League.
Barcelona formThe Catalan giants look set to bow out of the Champions League at the group stage for a second consecutive season. A 3-3 home draw with Inter, last time out in the competition, means that Barcelona has to win both their remaining games and hope that second-place Inter fails to win either of their final matches in Group C.
A record of just three wins in eight Champions League games illustrates Barcelona’s struggles in this competition of late.
Bayern Munich formThe Bavarian giants have dominated Group C, as they have already qualified for the last 16 by winning all four games while scoring at least twice in all four wins. The visitors have been highly difficult to beat in recent seasons in the Champions League, having suffered just two losses in their previous 35 matches in European football’s elite competition.
After a poor start to their campaign, a 2-0 win at Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga at the weekend means that Bayern has claimed four straight victories in all competitions. Julian Nagelsmann’s team won’t want to lose the positive momentum of recent weeks.
Latest Team NewsBarcelona are without Sergi Roberto, Memphis Depay, Ronald Araujo and Andreas Christensen due to various injuries. Bayern Munich has their own injury problems, as Manuel Neuer, Lucas Hernandez, Leroy Sane and Bouna Sarr will all miss out.
What am I backing?Bayern Munich has become Barcelona’s boogey team in Europe of late, as the Bavarians have won eight of the last nine meetings with the Catalan giants. We are backing the visitors to once again come out on top against the home team.
